Not too long ago I went on a weekend trip to Amsterdam visiting a friend of mine doing an exchange. Good thing I taught myself how to ride (at 16… ha) but all in all I had a good time.
“When in Rome do as the Romans do,” a well known phrase.
In this case, “when in Amsterdam do as the Dutch do”, so cycling was in order. Unfortunately buying a bike for a weekend didn’t work out as planned, leading to plan B – borrowing. The first bike we luckily got from some guy in our flat and it turned out to be a low-down, narrow seated, most intense pain when facing speedbumps/potholes, racing bike that caused so much pain (in no shape or form designed for women’s relatively curvaceous arses). Brilliant!
The remainder of the trip was a breeze on another lent bike – a lady, upright bike but the only challenge was the lack of breaks. There were none… . Oh well, got to get used to it or else. Even had time to plan in a gallery visit and get some good shots whilst walking around everywhere.
Was a shame that the trip was short though but either way I had a great time and I can always visit again.
If you haven’t been to Amsterdam yet, I would say to pay a visit. Personally, I love the city not for the Red Light District or sencimelia – that it’s notorious for – but just the general vibe.
Many more vacations to wherever are ‘mos def’ in order for me!
